Remarkable new technology in maintaining a youthful appearance is now available at Town & Country Plastic Surgery under the direction of R. Scott Yarish, M.D. Radiance is the latest advancement in facial line reduction.
Radiance is made from calcium hydroxylapatite, a normal component of bone and teeth, and appears to have little or no risk of allergy when used as an implant. It is synthesized in microscopic spheres for use by injection in augmentation of soft tissue. It is FDA approved for use in the larynx and other soft tissue areas. It has been used in Europe for the past few years as tissue fillers in the treatment of defects on the face: expression lines and scars.
Dr. R. Scott Yarish is now treating patients with Radiance in his Town and Country office for cosmetic purposes. The procedure is performed using a small needle injection after the application of a local anesthetic. They are currently using Radiance for smile lines, folds around the mouth, and forehead lines.
Substantial correction will be seen on the day of the procedure due to injection of the material itself. The permanent effects (at least 5-7 years) of Radiance occur over the next few months as the patient's skin produces more of its own collagen. Studies suggest that the microspheres disappear over the years, leaving the patient's collagen as a more or less permanent effect. Touch up treatments may be required. Specific FDA approval for cosmetic use is expected in the near future.
